Early in my time at Fox Sports in seemed clear that there was a need for a way to easily render items out of Vizrt’s real time renderer. Based on the requirements (audio, batch rendering, ease of use) the fastest way to get something built for production was through the Viz Template Wizard application. Though it lacked the capability of a fully built application, it still accomplished the goal in a short period of time.

I built an application to do single and batch renders of Vizrt scenes. After doing a render through the Clipout functionality in a Viz Engine with a Matrox card, the application converts the video files into several different formats. FFMPEG is used to do the conversion, and final files are delivered in whatever folder needed.

Fox Sport NASCAR Racehub uses touchscreen scenes integrated with Vizrt's Transition Logic for ease of use in the control room. This sample includes playoffs predictions and several game-type segments: What are the Chances?, Level of Concern, and Grade the Class.

During Fox Sports pregame, halftime, and postgame shows there is a need to display one or more game scores. Astucemedia was used to help integrate live scoring into our studio graphics. These graphics still needed to have Transition Logic and allow editing for production staff.

In 2018-2019 Fox Sports aired PBA bowling events throughout the season. These are some of the graphics that appeared. These are controlled through a custom interface allowing a single operator to quickly update graphics and display events.

I continued to develop and update the NHRA graphics during 2019. These elements are displayed live during events and allow the stats from the track to quickly get on-air.
Read MoreVolleyball Score Display
This score display was built to be used for Men's or Women's College volleyball or High School volleyball. I worked in Ventuz as required for this project. As with the Vizrt score displays, a custom interfaced needed to be developed for speed and accuracy during an event.

A refresh of the NFL graphics package required several elements to be built with a new style. These Transition Logic scenes allow for animations of varying height based on the needs of the information being shown.
NASCAR Racing Slabs with Results
Fox Sports already had a method for displaying live race standings and production requested the ability to show many more elements in the same screen space. A flexible Transition Logic system that could mask off the standings at specific heights was the solution.

Production requested the ability to show highlights of a racing event in a touchscreen. The final delivery allowed easy selection of clips, clip control through touch, and telestration with multiple tools.

Transition Logic and Shared Memory allowed us to create a solution for NASCAR Racehub that could follow the story. During the segment where hosts and guests select their drivers for an upcoming race, they could also show more information about the driver, including the best reasons for selection.

Using Astucemedia's data platform, Fox Sports was able to build graphics that show up to date stats during baseball games. The information shown can also include players on base and current pitcher / batter.
Read MoreBig Ten Graphics Package
In 2016, Big Ten Network (BTN) was one of the regional stations within Fox Sports. They had their own needs for graphics and I was able to assist in updating their package. Several full screen graphics and smaller elements are included and they mostly focus on stats and standings.
Fox Sports Virtual Car
At Fox Sports I've made a few contributions to the Virtual Car project in Vizrt. The battery box, oil tank, and master cylinder were all added or modified while I was working with this touchscreen Vizrt scene.
Read MoreVizrt Logo demo
This video highlighting the Vizrt logo was created for tradeshows and demonstrations. It was composed from several common elements and materials, which were organized in another example scene. The logo scene was built with a stop point for interactive playback through Viz Trio.
Vizrt Video User's Guide - Main Window
A video version of the Viz Artist 3.6 User's Guide, covering the Main Menu and Main Window. I recorded this in 2013 for first time users of Viz Artist. The scenes shown within the Viz Artist interface are also my creation.
PUCK flash game
This game was created in 2009 near the end of the web Flash era. I enjoyed working with actionscript to create a user interface that was easy to use, yet allowed the player to accomplish their goals. Through it's creation, I learned a lot about design and interactivity.
Read MoreViz Artist Quick Setup
Designers new to Vizrt don't know the requirements for a new installation of Viz Artist. Most often, a client will have the assistance of Vizrt's support staff to commission the machines and make sure everything is ready for playout. But in some situations a designer is doing the Viz Artist installation themselves.
I wanted to make sure they have the best information possible, so this video was created. This shows the step by step procedure for a Viz Artist installation, and offers some troubleshooting tips as well.
Using a Viz Artist scene as an introduction to Viz Artist
It is common to use PDFs or Powerpoint presentations as an introduction to Viz Artist and the workflow required. I wanted to use Viz Artist itself to create that introduction, and to make it clear how a user could navigate the interface to see more.
This scene was built with a first time user in mind, so it instructs them on each step necessary to move to the next topic. A scene script was also constructed to make the creation of more of these types of scenes very easy and quick.
Full screen built as an example for sports broadcasters.
Example Sports Graphics
When training I want to show examples of how certain Viz Artist plugins can be used, or techniques being accomplished. Most of the examples I have are from other broadcasters, so I am constrained in who I can share these examples with. So I created a series of graphics for a fake broadcaster, with the goal of giving real broadcasters some inspiration and instruction.
NSN is a fake sports broadcaster (as far as I know, anyway) and the graphics here show how to implement Viz DataPool, and integrate sports graphics into a workflow.
This baseball scoreboard graphic was created to mimic the graphics used by KCBS / KCAL in their Dodgers broadcasts. Recreated with the NSN branding, the board is fully interactive through DataPool. It can be controlled through a Viz Trio plugin or an external application.
